Eligibility

TO BE ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE TOC, ALL OF THE FOLLOWING MUST BE MET:

  • Athletes must be in 6th,7th or 8th grade and attend school in California North of the city of Tehachapi (Kern County) and the Cuesta grade/Santa Margarita ( San Luis Obispo County) AND meet all his/her school’s academic and citizenship eligibility requirements even if entering under a club team and not a school team. Girls need to qualify in a coed division at a qualifying tournament. Girls-only division does not qualify for TOC.
  • Athletes are limited to THREE total years of competition in the TOC regardless of grade in school.
  • Athletes must enter as a member of a school or viable club team and are not allowed to enter “unattached.”
  • Once a wrestler qualifies, he/she may enter in any weight class.
  • Wrestlers from the same school or club will be separated on the bracket. However, we cannot guarantee separation on the bracket if more than 2 qualified wrestlers are entered in a weight class.

In addition to the above, all athletes must qualify for the TOC by ONE of the following:

  • Wrestlers who placed 1st – 8th in a previous TOC.
  • Placing in the listed qualifying tournaments for the 2023-24 season (varsity level tournaments). The place required to qualify in any qualifying tournament is determined by the number of wrestlers in each particular weight class as shown below.* Wrestlers who participate in a TOC Qualifying Tournament can confirm if they qualified for TOC by checking the number of wrestlers in their weight class against the numbers below:
  • 1-2 wrestlers = no qualifier; 3 wrestlers = 1 qualifier; 4-6 wrestlers = 2 qualifiers; 7-10 wrestlers = 3 qualifiers; 11-16 wrestlers = 4 qualifiers; 17 or more wrestlers = 5 qualifiers

*Exceptions:

  • When two weights are combined at a qualifying tournament, one extra qualifier is earned for the combined weight class. Examples:
    • Normally 2 wrestlers in a weight class means no wrestler qualifies; however, if two weights (with only one wrestler each) were combined to make a weight class with 2 wrestlers, the champion would qualify.
    • 3 wrestlers in a combined weight would qualify 2 instead of just 1.
    • 4-6 wrestlers in a combined weight would qualify 3 instead of just 2, etc.
  • Heaviest weight at qualifying tournaments:  1-2 wrestlers = 1 qualifier; 3-4 wrestlers = 2 qualifiers; 5-6 wrestlers = 3 qualifiers; 7-11 wrestlers = 4 qualifiers; 12+ wrestlers = 5 qualifiers
  • Santa Clara County and CVYWA Masters qualify 4 wrestlers per weight class. Nor Cal Section = 3 qualifiers per weight.

Note: The TOC Director may consider granting a wrestler the ability to participate in the TOC when there is a hardship verified by the wrestler’s school coach, a viable team coach, or the director of a TOC qualifying tournament, and when the wrestler has met all other TOC eligibility requirements – e.g., a wrestler with a winning varsity record was unable to qualify due to being under a doctor’s care, a qualifying tournament was canceled, etc.

There is no Girls’ division for TOC, so all girls must qualify in a coed or boys’ division at qualifying tournaments. Girls-only division in tournaments do not qualify for TOC.
